People I Love

Sometimes I hate that I have a blog. The whole concept of a blog, a web log posted for all the world to absorb, seems just a tad bit narcissistic to me. Let’s be honest, my life is not all that interesting, and my ideas not always brilliant. I get kind of sick of always writing about my own experiences and opinions. As a futile attempt to combat such egotistical tendencies, I am going to write about the traits I enjoy in others.

I love people who love to laugh. The ability to share laughter with others is one of the most enjoyable elements of human relationship. People who take themselves too seriously add a shadow of stress to everything they do, which can be suffocating to those around them. Those who have learned to laugh at life bring a joyous freedom to even the most dismal of situations (such as being stuck working in a grocery store).

I love people who live creatively. Normal is boring. I relish those who live outside of the box.

I love people who tell me the truth. A friend that will give me their honest opinion is a rare treasure. Not someone who speaks bluntly just to be facetious or rude, trying desperately to hide their own insecurities. The kind of friend I’m thinking of will allow me to be my own unique self even if they don’t understand my quirks, but when they see me making foolish choices, they will intervene with the truth spoken out of love.

I love my family. Through the ups and the downs, they are always there for me. I know that no matter what I face in life, I will always have their unconditional love and support.

I love people who refuse to accept the status quo. In a culture constantly inundated by tragedies and injustices occurring throughout our world, most of us have become calloused to the daily conflicts faced by our neighbors. There are however, the few who rather than focusing on their own problems (for we all have problems), choose to invest their energy in helping to bring change to the lives of others.
